A friend from the working mum’s group who works at Brentwood School

asked me to come to her Gifted and Talented set at Brentwood School to teach them about sugarpaste and buttercream swirls.

I made a few cakes beforehand to show them what they could do.

A spring theme of daffodils, chicks and eggs and butterflies all taken next to the only spring flowers we have in the garden!

I also made a sheep – yes it is a sheep and ended up giving it away as the runner up prize for the best decorated cupcake.

Here are the kids and teachers getting stuck into making the sugarpaste roses.

The kids also learnt how to make buttercream swirls and rose swirls.

The whole class (well most of them) with their decorated cakes. Wonderful!

Baked cheesecake

A detour from cupcakes to show that it’s not all about sponge…our friends came over for lunch on Saturday and I decided to make a blueberry cheesecake.  The base wasn’t as crunchy as it should have been but it was ok. Our friends had seconds so mustn’t have been that bad!

50th birthday party

Our friend Wendy had a dinner party at a local restaurant to celebrate her 50th birthday and I decided to practice my large cake covering skills!

This was gluten free chocolate with dulce de leche buttercream filling and was very yummy but slightly too sickly to have very much.

Some of the left over batter which were turned into cupcakes. Useless cupcake wrappers on these, they came away from the sides, went transparent with grease and generally will not use again.
